The Wisharts
In the city directories 1940 · eleven people at eight addresses
The directories print eleven people named Wishart at eight addresses in 1940 in seven of the city's neighbourhoods. No first name or initials tie one address to another: we can't tell if they're one family. The most under one roof: three Wisharts at 3030 Ontario in 1940.

Their neighbourhoods
The addresses are in Kitsilano (2), Arbutus Ridge, Dunbar-Southlands, Fairview, Kerrisdale, Mount Pleasant and Renfrew-Collingwood. Each neighbourhood's page shows its trades, its people and every street in it, the way the directory printed them.
The story, address by address
In 1940 the directory lists Rev A C Wishart at 6991 Cypress Street; the 1940 line is marked *: some member of the family owns the property, to the best of our knowledge (the directory's own mark). The 1940 name section, where each person's work is printed, lists Rev Archibald C Wishart there as the householder. In 1940 the directory lists A Wishart at 3030 Ontario Street; the 1940 line is marked * too. The 1940 name section lists Alfred Wishart there as the householder, a school teacher, with Margaret Wishart, a checker at the Strand Theatre, and Marion Wishart, a student.
In 1940 the directory lists D Wishart at 5080 Slocan Street. The 1940 name section lists David Wishart there as the householder. In 1940 the directory lists R B Wishart at 1316 West 11th Avenue. The 1940 name section lists Robert B Wishart there as the householder.
In 1940 the directory lists T Wishart at 2285 West 13th Avenue. The 1940 name section lists Terence Wishart there as the householder, on active service. In 1940 the directory lists C T Wishart at 4027 West 18th Avenue; the 1940 line is marked * too. The 1940 name section lists Charles T Wishart there as the householder, a buyer at the Hudson's Bay Company, with Patrick O Wishart, a clerk for J W Boyd.
The 1940 name section lists Edward Wishart at 2038 West 2nd Avenue, retired. T R Wishart is listed at 2781 West 33rd Avenue in 1940; the 1940 line is marked * too. The 1940 name section lists Thomas R Wishart there as the householder, a benchman for Sigurdson Millwork.
Today
3030 Ontario still has its building from before 1946, dated 1911 by the City's record and on the Vancouver Heritage Register; 1316 West 11th (2001), 2285 West 13th (1999), 4027 West 18th (2008) and 2781 West 33rd (1991) have newer buildings, by the City's record; the City no longer lists 6991 Cypress, 5080 Slocan and 2038 West 2nd, so those buildings are probably gone (inferred).

Sources
Henderson's and successor city directories for Vancouver, read by us line by line: the street sections for 1905, 1915, 1925, 1935, 1940 and 1945, and the name section for 1930 and 1940 where we've read it (Vancouver Public Library, BC City Directories). Names are shown through 1945, as printed. Close spellings are grouped, as on the house pages, since a family's name was often spelled differently from one year to the next; one name can still be several families, and we join lines only where the first names or initials agree. Many Chinese, Japanese and other residents weren't named by the canvassers, so they can't be listed by name: their houses' pages say where. More family names under W. Want a name removed? Tell us.
