What you buy
A book is the history of one house, or of one family name, read from the Vancouver city directories we hold from 1901 to 1945: who the directories list, their work, the neighbours, and the page behind every line. It is a private web page in your account, to read there or save as a PDF to print or give, as often as you like. It isn't a legal record of ownership, and it never includes deaths, crimes or names after 1945. The directories print some residents only as a group (for example "Chinese" or "Japanese"); the book says so where they do, and can't name them.
Before you pay, the order page shows which years are read for that house or name today, which aren't yet, and which we hold no copy of. Your order reads the rest we hold. Page one of your book says which years it covers.
The promise
Your book within 7 days of paying, or a full refund. If the finished book has fewer than 3 years with a household (or, for a family book, the name) in it, we refund it in full; you're told by email either way. If a year we hadn't read, or held no copy of, comes in later, your book fills it in at no charge, and you can save the PDF again.
Refunds go back to the card you paid with, and usually reach it in 5 to 10 days. If something in your book is wrong, tell us and we'll check it against the page and correct it.
Family packs
A family pack is 5 books for one price, for any houses or family names, used one at a time from your account. Its books don't expire.
Paying
Prices are in Canadian dollars and shown before you pay. Stripe takes the payment by card; we never see your card number. We can only take as many orders as we can finish within 7 days, so the order page may ask you to try again in a day or two.
