In 1940 the directory lists A W Gilroy at 1601 Comox Street. The 1940 name section, where each person's work is printed, lists Arthur W Gilroy there as the householder, a watchman at the National Harbours Board. The 1940 name section lists Herbert Gilroy at 1663 Frances Street, on active service. The 1940 name section lists E Beatrice Gilroy at 1112 Harwood Street, a stenographer for E Smith.

The 1940 name section lists Alice M Gilroy at 625 West 11th Avenue, a nurse at the Vancouver General Hospital. M G Gilroy is listed at 2975 West 12th Avenue in 1940. The 1940 name section lists Morris G Gilroy there as the householder, a salesman at Investors Synd. The 1940 name section lists C John Gilroy at 3391 West 22nd Avenue, a department manager at the Hudson's Bay Company.

In 1940 the directory lists W H Gilroy at 3160 West 24th Avenue. The 1940 name section lists William H Gilroy there as the householder, a serviceman at Forst's. In 1940 the directory lists Miss A L Gilroy at 1455 West 8th Avenue. The 1940 name section lists Aimee L L Gilroy there as the householder, a nurse at the Vancouver General Hospital.

The 1940 name section lists G Gilroy at 609 West Pender Street, retired.

Today

1601 Comox, 3391 West 22nd, 3160 West 24th and 1455 West 8th still have their buildings from before 1946, 1601 Comox and 1455 West 8th on the Vancouver Heritage Register; 2975 West 12th (2012) has a newer building, by the City's record; the City no longer lists 1663 Frances, 1112 Harwood, 625 West 11th and 609 West Pender, so those buildings are probably gone (inferred).

Henderson's and successor city directories for Vancouver, read by us line by line: the street sections for 1905, 1915, 1925, 1935, 1940 and 1945, and the name section for 1930 and 1940 where we've read it (Vancouver Public Library, BC City Directories). Names are shown through 1945, as printed. Close spellings are grouped, as on the house pages, since a family's name was often spelled differently from one year to the next; one name can still be several families, and we join lines only where the first names or initials agree.
