The story, address by address
In 1940 the directory lists D M Winton at 2216 Graveley Street. The 1940 name section, where each person's work is printed, lists Daniel M Winton there as the householder, proprietor of Winton's Transfer, with Gordon Winton, a driver at Winton's Transfer, John D Winton, a driver at Winton's Transfer, and Norman Winton, a driver at Winton's Transfer. In 1940 the directory lists G T B Winton at 1269 Pacific Street. The 1940 name section lists George T B Winton there as the householder, a salesman, with Elizabeth J Winton, Florence A Winton, a clerk at Spencer's, and John T Winton, a salesman.
In 1940 the directory lists J Winton Jr at 1137 Renfrew Street. The 1940 name section lists John Winton Jr there as the householder, a mechanic at D McLean Motors. In 1940 the directory lists J Winton at 1525 Renfrew Street; the 1940 line is marked *: some member of the family owns the property, to the best of our knowledge (the directory's own mark). The 1940 name section lists John Winton there as the householder, a gardener at the Vancouver Parks Board.
In 1940 the directory lists J O Winton at 2936 Waterloo Street. The 1940 name section lists J Owen Winton there as the householder, a salesman at Campbell Motors. The 1940 name section lists George S Winton there as the householder, a carpenter, with Elmer G Winton, a radio serviceman at J W Kelly Piano.
The 1940 name section lists Mrs Kathleen M Winton at 3393 West 26th Avenue, a stenographer at Canadian Westinghouse. T Winton is listed at 3304 West 6th Avenue in 1940. The 1940 name section lists Thomas Winton there as the householder, a salesman at Macdonald & Wilson.
Today
1525 Renfrew, 2936 Waterloo and 3304 West 6th still have their buildings from before 1946; 2216 Graveley (1988), 3691 West 18th (2020) and 3393 West 26th (2010) have newer buildings, by the City's record; the City no longer lists 1269 Pacific and 1137 Renfrew, so those buildings are probably gone (inferred).

Sources
Henderson's and successor city directories for Vancouver, read by us line by line: the street sections for 1905, 1915, 1925, 1935, 1940 and 1945, and the name section for 1930 and 1940 where we've read it (Vancouver Public Library, BC City Directories). Names are shown through 1945, as printed. Close spellings are grouped, as on the house pages, since a family's name was often spelled differently from one year to the next; one name can still be several families, and we join lines only where the first names or initials agree. Many Chinese, Japanese and other residents weren't named by the canvassers, so they can't be listed by name: their houses' pages say where. More family names under W. Want a name removed? Tell us.
