What they did
The name section prints a trade for eight of the 14: a carpenter, a civil engineer, a conductor, an engineer, a motorman and a salesman, among others. Two of them worked for BC Electric Railway. Two are widows, listed under their own names.
Their neighbourhoods
The addresses are in Downtown (2), Kensington-Cedar Cottage (2), Arbutus Ridge, Fairview, Kitsilano, Renfrew-Collingwood, Riley Park, Sunset and West Point Grey. Each neighbourhood's page shows its trades, its people and every street in it, the way the directory printed them.
The story, address by address
In 1940 the directory lists H R Paget at 5760 Chester Street; the 1940 line is marked *: some member of the family owns the property, to the best of our knowledge (the directory's own mark). The 1940 name section, where each person's work is printed, lists Henry R Paget there as the householder, a carpenter at Ruddy-Duker, with H Eric Paget. In 1940 the directory lists B W Paget at 3369 East 23rd Avenue; the 1940 line is marked * too. The 1940 name section lists Benjamin W Paget there, an engineer, with Claremont E Paget, a student.
In 1940 the directory lists R W Paget at 2425 Granville Street. The 1940 name section lists Ross W Paget there as the householder, a conductor at the BC Electric Railway. The 1940 name section lists Alfred Paget at 1247 Homer Street.
A E Paget, a civil engineer, is listed at 900 Seymour Street in 1940. The 1940 name section lists A E Paget there, a civil engineer. Mrs H E Paget is listed at 2633 Victoria Drive in 1940. The 1940 name section lists Hughena E Paget there as the householder, a widow.
H W Pagett is listed at 4282 Welwyn Street in 1940. The 1940 name section lists Harold W Pagett there as the householder, a sawyer. J W Paget is listed at 2256 West 12th Avenue in 1940; the 1940 line is marked * too. The 1940 name section lists John W Paget there as the householder, a motorman at the BC Electric Railway, with Ruth B Paget.
R E Paget is listed at 4504 West 1st Avenue in 1940. The 1940 name section lists Russell E Paget there as the householder, with Rosemarie Paget, a waitress at Angelus Coffee Shop. The 1940 name section lists Emma Paget at 469 West 23rd Avenue, widow of W.
In 1940 the directory lists J A Paget at 2498 West 33rd Avenue; the 1940 line is marked * too. The 1940 name section lists J Alan Paget there as the householder, a salesman at Peacock Bros.
Today
900 Seymour, 4282 Welwyn and 469 West 23rd still have their buildings from before 1946; 5760 Chester (1986), 3369 East 23rd (2011) and 1247 Homer (1999) have newer buildings, by the City's record; the City no longer lists 2425 Granville, 2633 Victoria Drive, 2256 West 12th, 4504 West 1st and 2498 West 33rd, so those buildings are probably gone (inferred).

The book of the Pagets
Every directory, as one book
The family book reads the Paget name in each Vancouver directory we hold from 1901 to 1945: everyone printed under it at every address, their work from the name sections, who lived next door, and the page behind every line, to read here or save as a PDF to print or give.

Sources
Henderson's and successor city directories for Vancouver, read by us line by line: the street sections for 1905, 1915, 1925, 1935, 1940 and 1945, and the name section for 1930 and 1940 where we've read it (Vancouver Public Library, BC City Directories). Names are shown through 1945, as printed. Close spellings are grouped, as on the house pages, since a family's name was often spelled differently from one year to the next; one name can still be several families, and we join lines only where the first names or initials agree. Many Chinese, Japanese and other residents weren't named by the canvassers, so they can't be listed by name: their houses' pages say where. More family names under P. Want a name removed? Tell us.
