The Paceys
In the city directories 1940 · 15 people at seven addresses
The directories print 15 people named Pacey at seven addresses in 1940 in seven of the city's neighbourhoods, with the close spelling Peacey. No first name or initials tie one address to another: we can't tell if they're one family. The most under one roof: three Paceys at 2132 Kitchener in 1940.

What they did

Their neighbourhoods
The addresses are in Grandview-Woodland, Hastings-Sunrise, Kensington-Cedar Cottage, Kerrisdale, Kitsilano, Sunset and Victoria-Fraserview. Each neighbourhood's page shows its trades, its people and every street in it, the way the directory printed them.
The story, address by address
In 1940 the directory lists A T Peacey at 1846 Balaclava Street; the 1940 line is marked *: some member of the family owns the property, to the best of our knowledge (the directory's own mark). The 1940 name section, where each person's work is printed, lists Arthur T Peacey there as the householder, an inspector at Eagle Star Insurance, with Elsie A Peacey, a milliner. In 1940 the directory lists J E Pacey at 1736 East 35th Avenue; the 1940 line is marked * too. The 1940 name section lists John E Pacey there as the householder, a salesman.
In 1940 the directory lists Mrs A C Peacey at 298 East 41st Avenue; the 1940 line is marked * too. The 1940 name section lists Anna C Peacey there as the householder, widow of J, with William L Peacey, a shipper at Dunlop Tire & Rubber. In 1940 the directory lists Mrs M E Pacey at 2132 Kitchener Street; the 1940 line is marked * too. The 1940 name section lists Mary E Pacey there as the householder, widow of J E, with Frederick E Pacey, a carpenter, and Jack Pacey, a warehouseman.
In 1940 the directory lists J R Pacey at 2944 Kitchener Street; the 1940 line is marked * too. The 1940 name section lists John R Pacey there as the householder, a shoe repairer. In 1940 the directory lists W J L Pacey at 5975 Larch Street; the 1940 line is marked * too. The 1940 name section lists William J L Pacey there as the householder, a doorman at the Broadway Theatre, with Geoffrey L Pacey, a bookkeeper, and William R L Pacey, a bookkeeper at BC Packers.
In 1940 the directory lists Mrs N Peacey at 6082 Victoria Drive. The 1940 name section lists Nellie Peacey there as the householder, widow of J C, with Norman Peacey and Ron Peacey.
Today
2132 Kitchener still has its building from before 1946, dated 1931 by the City's record; 1846 Balaclava (2006), 1736 East 35th (1981), 298 East 41st (1965), 2944 Kitchener (1983) and 5975 Larch (2004) have newer buildings, by the City's record; the City no longer lists 6082 Victoria Drive, so that building is probably gone (inferred).

Sources
Henderson's and successor city directories for Vancouver, read by us line by line: the street sections for 1905, 1915, 1925, 1935, 1940 and 1945, and the name section for 1930 and 1940 where we've read it (Vancouver Public Library, BC City Directories). Names are shown through 1945, as printed. Close spellings are grouped, as on the house pages, since a family's name was often spelled differently from one year to the next; one name can still be several families, and we join lines only where the first names or initials agree. Many Chinese, Japanese and other residents weren't named by the canvassers, so they can't be listed by name: their houses' pages say where. More family names under P. Want a name removed? Tell us.
