The addresses are in Fairview, Hastings-Sunrise, Kensington-Cedar Cottage, Killarney, Kitsilano, West End and West Point Grey. Each neighbourhood's page shows its trades, its people and every street in it, the way the directory printed them.
The story, address by address
In 1940 the directory lists A Murison at 5939 Battison Street; the 1940 line is marked *: some member of the family owns the property, to the best of our knowledge (the directory's own mark). The 1940 name section, where each person's work is printed, lists Alex Murison there as the householder, a salesman. In 1940 the directory lists Mrs E R Murison at 2773 East Georgia Street. The 1940 name section lists Elizabeth R Murison there as the householder, widow of R R.
In 1940 the directory lists T Murison at 3949 Knight Street. The 1940 name section lists Thomas Murison there as the householder. In 1940 the directory lists Mrs B E H Murison at 1419 Nelson Street. The 1940 name section lists Blanche E H Murison there as the householder, widow of W J H, with Patrick D V Murison, a clerk at the Bank of Montreal.
In 1940 the directory lists W Murison at 1585 West 15th Avenue. The 1940 name section lists William Murison there as the householder, a secretary at Terminal City Lawn Bowling Club (Men). In 1940 the directory lists C S Murson at 2057 West 8th Avenue. The 1940 name section lists C Stan Murison there as the householder, a mechanic at the Williams Super Service.
In 1940 the directory lists W L P Murison at 4358 West 8th Avenue; the 1940 line is marked * too. The 1940 name section lists William L P Murison there as the householder, a chief engineer at Canada Packers.
Today
5939 Battison, 1585 West 15th and 4358 West 8th still have their buildings from before 1946, 1585 West 15th on the Vancouver Heritage Register; 2773 East Georgia (1991) has a newer building, by the City's record; the City no longer lists 3949 Knight, 1419 Nelson and 2057 West 8th, so those buildings are probably gone (inferred).

Sources
Henderson's and successor city directories for Vancouver, read by us line by line: the street sections for 1905, 1915, 1925, 1935, 1940 and 1945, and the name section for 1930 and 1940 where we've read it (Vancouver Public Library, BC City Directories). Names are shown through 1945, as printed. Close spellings are grouped, as on the house pages, since a family's name was often spelled differently from one year to the next; one name can still be several families, and we join lines only where the first names or initials agree. Many Chinese, Japanese and other residents weren't named by the canvassers, so they can't be listed by name: their houses' pages say where. More family names under M. Want a name removed? Tell us.
