The directories print twelve people named Ingham at nine addresses in 1940 in eight of the city's neighbourhoods. No first name or initials tie one address to another: we can't tell if they're one family. The most under one roof: three Inghams at 4450 West 7th in 1940.

What they did
The name section prints a trade for nine of the twelve: an engineer (2), a branch manager, a craneman, a longshoreman, a mechanic and a postman, among others. Two are widows, listed under their own names.
Their neighbourhoods
The addresses are in Kensington-Cedar Cottage (2), Arbutus Ridge, Downtown, Hastings-Sunrise, Kitsilano, Riley Park, West End and West Point Grey. Each neighbourhood's page shows its trades, its people and every street in it, the way the directory printed them.
The story, address by address
The 1940 name section, where each person's work is printed, lists Robert Ingham at 1055 Barclay Street, a mechanic at McDermott Motors. J E Ingham is listed at 252 East 22nd Avenue in 1940. The 1940 name section lists Joseph E Ingham there as the householder, a branch manager for H Curry.
J Ingham is listed at 2714 Franklin Street in 1940. The 1940 name section lists James Ingham there as the householder, a longshoreman. J J Ingham is listed at 3545 Marshall Street in 1940; the 1940 line is marked *: some member of the family owns the property, to the best of our knowledge (the directory's own mark). The 1940 name section lists John J Ingham there as the householder.
J W Ingham is listed at 4504 Welwyn Street in 1940; the 1940 line is marked * too. The 1940 name section lists Joseph W Ingham there as the householder, an engineer at Arbutus S&D, with Caroline I Ingham, widow of D W. G H Ingham is listed at 3195 West 11th Avenue in 1940; the 1940 line is marked * too. The 1940 name section lists George H Ingham there as the householder, an engineer at Boeings.
Mrs S Ingham is listed at 4450 West 7th Avenue in 1940; the 1940 line is marked * too. The 1940 name section lists Sarah Ingham there as the householder, widow of R, with Sarah M Ingham, a school teacher, and William T Ingham, a craneman. The 1940 name section lists Mrs Ada Ingham at 921 West Pender Street, proprietor of Abbotsford Taxi.
In 1940 the directory lists F F Ingham at 5669 Yew Street; the 1940 line is marked * too. The 1940 name section lists Francis F Ingham there as the householder, a postman.
Today
3545 Marshall, 4450 West 7th and 921 West Pender still have their buildings from before 1946; 252 East 22nd (2002), 4504 Welwyn (2005) and 3195 West 11th (2015) have newer buildings, by the City's record; the City no longer lists 1055 Barclay, 2714 Franklin and 5669 Yew, so those buildings are probably gone (inferred).

Sources
Henderson's and successor city directories for Vancouver, read by us line by line: the street sections for 1905, 1915, 1925, 1935, 1940 and 1945, and the name section for 1930 and 1940 where we've read it (Vancouver Public Library, BC City Directories). Names are shown through 1945, as printed. Close spellings are grouped, as on the house pages, since a family's name was often spelled differently from one year to the next; one name can still be several families, and we join lines only where the first names or initials agree. Many Chinese, Japanese and other residents weren't named by the canvassers, so they can't be listed by name: their houses' pages say where. More family names under I. Want a name removed? Tell us.
