In the city directories 1940 · 13 people at ten addresses
The directories print 13 people named Carrick at ten addresses in 1940 in six of the city's neighbourhoods. No first name or initials tie one address to another: we can't tell if they're one family. The most under one roof: three Carricks at 2103 West 49th in 1940.

The name section prints a trade for eight of the 13: a clerk, an elevator operator, an examiner, a hairdresser, a miner and a printer, among others.
Their neighbourhoods
The addresses are in Fairview (3), Downtown (2), Kerrisdale (2), Hastings-Sunrise, Mount Pleasant and West Point Grey. Each neighbourhood's page shows its trades, its people and every street in it, the way the directory printed them.
The story, address by address
In 1940 the directory lists P McA Carrick at 497 East 10th Avenue; the 1940 line is marked *: some member of the family owns the property, to the best of our knowledge (the directory's own mark). The 1940 name section, where each person's work is printed, lists Peter McA Carrick there as the householder, with Jean T L Carrick, a stenographer. The 1940 name section lists Archibald C Carrick at 1006 Granville Street, an examiner at the Customs.
M Carrick is listed at 3266 Graveley Street in 1940. The 1940 name section lists Malcolm Carrick there as the householder, retired. A E Carrick is listed at 5986 Vine Street in 1940; the 1940 line is marked * too. The 1940 name section lists Albert E Carrick there as the householder, a printer at Murphy & Chapman.
The 1940 name section lists Ethel J Carrick at 1054 West 10th Avenue, a salesman. The 1940 name section lists Margaret E Carrick at 501 West 12th Avenue, a clerk. G E Carrick is listed at 4173 West 16th Avenue in 1940; the 1940 line is marked * too. The 1940 name section lists George E Carrick there as the householder, retired.
A A Carrick is listed at 2103 West 49th Avenue in 1940; the 1940 line is marked * too. The 1940 name section lists Andrew A Carrick there as the householder, retired, with Marjorie I Carrick, a hairdresser at the Hudson's Bay Company, and Sibyl A Carrick, a student. T Carrick is listed at 1446 West 5th Avenue in 1940. The 1940 name section lists Tom Carrick there as the householder, an elevator operator at the Vancouver Hotel.
D Carrick is listed at 19 West Cordova Street in 1940. The 1940 name section lists Daniel Carrick there as the householder, a miner.
Today
497 East 10th and 501 West 12th still have their buildings from before 1946, 501 West 12th on the Vancouver Heritage Register; 3266 Graveley (1964), 4173 West 16th (1987) and 2103 West 49th (1991) have newer buildings, by the City's record; the City no longer lists 1006 Granville, 5986 Vine, 1054 West 10th, 1446 West 5th and 19 West Cordova, so those buildings are probably gone (inferred).

Sources
Henderson's and successor city directories for Vancouver, read by us line by line: the street sections for 1905, 1915, 1925, 1935, 1940 and 1945, and the name section for 1930 and 1940 where we've read it (Vancouver Public Library, BC City Directories). Names are shown through 1945, as printed. Close spellings are grouped, as on the house pages, since a family's name was often spelled differently from one year to the next; one name can still be several families, and we join lines only where the first names or initials agree. Many Chinese, Japanese and other residents weren't named by the canvassers, so they can't be listed by name: their houses' pages say where. More family names under C. Want a name removed? Tell us.
