A family name in Vancouver's city directories
The Weldons
In the city directories 1940 · eleven people at six addresses
The directories print eleven people named Weldon at six addresses in 1940 in five of the city's neighbourhoods. No first name or initials tie one address to another: we can't tell if they're one family. The most under one roof: four Weldons at 1591 West 16th in 1940.

What they did
The name section prints a trade for six of the eleven: a school teacher (2), a building contractor, a carpenter, a fireman and a stenographer. Some worked for the same employer: two for UBC and two for Vancouver City.
Their neighbourhoods
The addresses are in Fairview (2), Downtown, Dunbar-Southlands, Strathcona and West End. Each neighbourhood's page shows its trades, its people and every street in it, the way the directory printed them.
The story, address by address
The 1940 name section, where each person's work is printed, lists David Weldon at 634 East Georgia Street. The 1940 name section lists Jack Weldon at 1740 Nelson Street, a fireman at the Union Steamship Company. The 1940 name section lists Charles Weldon at 1636 West 12th Avenue, a student at UBC.
Mrs I Weldon is listed at 1591 West 16th Avenue in 1940. The 1940 name section lists Mrs Ida Weldon there as the householder, a school teacher, with Dorothy H Weldon, a stenographer at the BC Telephone, Josephine W Weldon, a student at UBC, and Sylvia Le S Weldon, a school teacher. C L R Weldon, a building contractor, is listed at 4002 West 32nd Avenue in 1940; the 1940 line is marked *: some member of the family owns the property, to the best of our knowledge (the directory's own mark). The 1940 name section lists Clayton L R Weldon there, a building contractor, with Lillian I Weldon, and William I Weldon, a carpenter.
R C Weldon, a physician, is listed at 925 West Georgia Street in 1940.
Today
634 East Georgia, 1591 West 16th and 4002 West 32nd still have their buildings from before 1946, 634 East Georgia on the Vancouver Heritage Register; the City no longer lists 1740 Nelson, 1636 West 12th and 925 West Georgia, so those buildings are probably gone (inferred).

Sources
Henderson's and successor city directories for Vancouver, read by us line by line: the street sections for 1905, 1915, 1925, 1935, 1940 and 1945, and the name section for 1930 and 1940 where we've read it (Vancouver Public Library, BC City Directories). Names are shown through 1945, as printed. Close spellings are grouped, as on the house pages, since a family's name was often spelled differently from one year to the next; one name can still be several families, and we join lines only where the first names or initials agree. Many Chinese, Japanese and other residents weren't named by the canvassers, so they can't be listed by name: their houses' pages say where. More family names under W. Want a name removed? Tell us.
