In 1940 the directory lists D McP McGugan at 925 Cardero Street. D A McGougan is listed at 3204 East 47th Avenue in 1940; the 1940 line is marked *: some member of the family owns the property, to the best of our knowledge (the directory's own mark). The 1940 name section, where each person's work is printed, lists Don A McGougan there as the householder, an upholsterer at the CPR, with Don A McGougan Jr, and John P McGougan, an apprentice for J Manten.

J McGougan is listed at 4404 Rupert Street in 1940; the 1940 line is marked * too. The 1940 name section lists John McGougan there as the householder, who worked for the City of Vancouver, with John A McGougan, a helper at Robertson S&D, and Duncan P McGougan, who worked for B C Plywoods. R C McGugan is listed at 1591 West 16th Avenue in 1940. The 1940 name section lists Reginald C McGugan there as the householder, a president at McGugan & Co.

A McGougan, a building contractor, is listed at 1865 West 16th Avenue in 1940. The 1940 name section lists Angus McGougan there, a building contractor, with Archibald C McGougan, a purchasing department at Mills & Packers Ltd, and Mary E McGougan, a clerk at Spencer's. The 1940 name section lists Fulton J MacGougan at 1308 West 37th Avenue, retired.

Today

925 Cardero, 4404 Rupert and 1591 West 16th still have their buildings from before 1946; 1308 West 37th (2007) has a newer building, by the City's record; the City no longer lists 3204 East 47th and 1865 West 16th, so those buildings are probably gone (inferred).

Henderson's and successor city directories for Vancouver, read by us line by line: the street sections for 1905, 1915, 1925, 1935, 1940 and 1945, and the name section for 1930 and 1940 where we've read it (Vancouver Public Library, BC City Directories). Names are shown through 1945, as printed. Close spellings are grouped, as on the house pages, since a family's name was often spelled differently from one year to the next; one name can still be several families, and we join lines only where the first names or initials agree.
