The 1940 name section, where each person's work is printed, lists Mrs Margaret Heggie at 1460 Barclay Street. Mrs J Heggie is listed at 419 East 38th Avenue in 1940. The 1940 name section lists Jessie Heggie there as the householder, widow of J N. The 1940 name section lists Sally Heggie at 763 Nicola Street, a student.

The 1940 name section lists Duncan R Heggie at 2605 West 37th Avenue, who worked for J Heggie, with Gordon Heggie. The 1940 name section lists Agnes Heggie at 2153 West 40th Avenue, an usher. In 1940 the directory lists J Heggie, a gas and oil, at 2208 West 41st Avenue.

Mrs J S Heggie is listed at 5479 Yew Street in 1940; the 1940 line is marked *: some member of the family owns the property, to the best of our knowledge (the directory's own mark). The 1940 name section lists Jean S Heggie there as the householder, widow of R, with Andrew Y Heggie, a clerk at Toronto General Trusts, and Irene A Heggie, an operator at the BC Telephone. J Heggie is listed at 5550 Yew Street in 1940; the 1940 line is marked * too. The 1940 name section lists James Heggie there as the householder, who ran a gas and oil and garage.

Today

419 East 38th and 2605 West 37th still have their buildings from before 1946, 2605 West 37th on the Vancouver Heritage Register; 1460 Barclay (1970), 2208 West 41st (1967) and 5550 Yew (1955) have newer buildings, by the City's record; the City no longer lists 763 Nicola, 2153 West 40th and 5479 Yew, so those buildings are probably gone (inferred).

Henderson's and successor city directories for Vancouver, read by us line by line: the street sections for 1905, 1915, 1925, 1935, 1940 and 1945, and the name section for 1930 and 1940 where we've read it (Vancouver Public Library, BC City Directories). Names are shown through 1945, as printed. Close spellings are grouped, as on the house pages, since a family's name was often spelled differently from one year to the next; one name can still be several families, and we join lines only where the first names or initials agree.
