A family name in Vancouver's city directories
The Craddocks
In the city directories 1940 · ten people at eight addresses
The directories print ten people named Craddock at eight addresses in 1940 in four of the city's neighbourhoods, with the close spelling Cradock. No first name or initials tie one address to another: we can't tell if they're one family. The most under one roof: three Craddocks at 1558 Harwood in 1940.

Their neighbourhoods
The addresses are in Kensington-Cedar Cottage (3), Fairview (2), West End (2) and Riley Park. Each neighbourhood's page shows its trades, its people and every street in it, the way the directory printed them.
The story, address by address
In 1940 the directory lists C C Craddock at 1280 East 19th Avenue; the 1940 line is marked *: some member of the family owns the property, to the best of our knowledge (the directory's own mark). The 1940 name section, where each person's work is printed, lists Chris C Craddock there as the householder, a carman at the CPR. In 1940 the directory lists H F Craddock at 4452 Harriet Street. The 1940 name section lists Howard F Craddock there as the householder, a porter at the CPR.
In 1940 the directory lists A E Craddock at 1558 Harwood Street. The 1940 name section lists Albert E Craddock there as the householder, a secretary-manager at the Associated Property Owners of Vancouver, with John E Craddock, who worked for Boeings, and Victoria H Craddock. The 1940 name section lists Edward W Cradock at 1173 Nelson Street, a salesman for E W Gyseman. The 1940 name section lists Bert Craddock at 38 West 17th Avenue, a moulder.
In 1940 the directory lists F D Craddock at 1666 West 6th Avenue. The 1940 name section lists Frank D Craddock there as the householder, a salesman at Benson & Hedges. In 1940 the directory lists F R Craddock at 1725 West 7th Avenue. The 1940 name section lists Frank R Craddock there as the householder, a coxswain at the National Harbours Board.

Today
4452 Harriet, 38 West 17th and 1666 West 6th still have their buildings from before 1946; 1280 East 19th (1989), 1558 Harwood (1985) and 3343 Windsor (2020) have newer buildings, by the City's record; the City no longer lists 1173 Nelson and 1725 West 7th, so those buildings are probably gone (inferred).

Sources
Henderson's and successor city directories for Vancouver, read by us line by line: the street sections for 1905, 1915, 1925, 1935, 1940 and 1945, and the name section for 1930 and 1940 where we've read it (Vancouver Public Library, BC City Directories). Names are shown through 1945, as printed. Close spellings are grouped, as on the house pages, since a family's name was often spelled differently from one year to the next; one name can still be several families, and we join lines only where the first names or initials agree. Many Chinese, Japanese and other residents weren't named by the canvassers, so they can't be listed by name: their houses' pages say where. More family names under C. Want a name removed? Tell us.
