The house today

The building the 1940 directory knew is gone: the City dates the building at 2045 now to 1957; no building from before 1946 is left on the 2000 block of Barclay Street, and across the street the City dates 2040's to 1954. A permit to build a frame house (the register's number: “ or 2045”) was taken out in July 1904 by L G McPhillips: builder W Hepburn, architect Samuel Maclure, $7,000; the 1940 directory lists the McPhillips name here. (inferred) (the register's number for it is uncertain, but the owner's name is one the directories list here)
